3DS Modding
Finally hacked my 3DS using the Ssloth Browser exploit.
The only issue I ran into was that the first time I 'proceeded to haxx', I ran into an error. I didn't see this error anywhere else so I got nervous. But one of the troubleshooting items on the hacks guide said that browser based exploits sometimes fail and need to be tried again. I thus proceeded to haxx a second time and this time, it worked.
All it took to mod my 3DS was an SD card (I got a 32 GB one, which is probably overkill for what I need but whatever) and the ability to follow instructions. Very easy! No wonder YouTube is blowing up with videos about how you need to mod your 3DS. (And blowing up 3DS prices... Nintendo prices only ever go up, it seems.)
While I haven't tried it for the Wii yet, I believe it also uses SD card based browser exploit. I'm so fascinated by this. There don't appear to be any mods for the DS that I've seen, even though it has a small operating system. Perhaps the difference is the Wii and 3DS have the ability to install apps? Something to look into.
Switch is more complicated now. There was apparently a brief firmware update that allowed for softmods, but otherwise you need to use an unpatched Switch with a jig. Patched Switches, you need a modchip which is installed via microsoldering.
Fun fact - both the Switch and Switch 2 use fuses to make sure you can't roll back to an earlier firmware version. You can read about the Switch's fuses here.
